IVR Technology Group recently played an integral part in UB’s first ever code-a-thon called UBHacking 2012. On March 23-24, 80 newbie developers implemented skills they have learned through their degree program or just simply on their own in a 24 hour intensive application building challenge. Akash Desai attended this event and considered it to be an over-night success, literally! Participants were motivated by relevant, impressive prizes ranging from iPad 3s to cloud hosting space. The objective was to create an application with the potential to revolutionize the way consumers utilize technology on a daily basis. In short, it was all about “Making An Impact”. The teams delivered on the challenge and Akash was blown away by the level of creativity and real-life implementation each product could mean for possible users.
Impressly was absolutely impressive and took first place with their “interactive presentations” application which runs platform independent. Right from your browser, the user can create a professional grade presentation on a personal devise such as a tablet or smartphone because it was created on open web technologies. Grasshopper didn’t place, however this team was chosen as the Judge’s Favorite (and Akash’s as well) because of their Location Based Messaging Service. Supported on Android and IOS, messages would only be owned by one person at a time and are intended to be short lived. Messages can be broadcast at specific geo locations through a web portal.
The next generation of application developers is showing they are excited to showcase their knowledge and creativity. Taking full advantage of these fresh, technologically fluent inventors is going to revolutionize the face of technology. IVR Tech was thrilled to serve as a sponsor for UBHacking 2012 and looks forward to what this new tradition has to offer throughout the years to come. These 80 young developers represent just a peek into the up and coming minds that are most definitely “Making an Impact”.
